The September 11, 2001 attacks were planned in the mid to late 1900s, just after World War II. The events leading up to September 11, 2001 ended in tragedy. On September 11, 2001, two planes crashed into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Flight 175, an American Airlines plane was hijacked that morning and crashed into the North Tower. Only a short time after the first attack, another American Airlines plane, Flight 11, crashed into the south tower. The same day another plane, Flight 77, crashed into the west side of the Pentagon in Washington, DC. That day Flight 93 was hijacked and headed for the White House, but passengers aboard the plane took control and crashed the plane near a town called Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The terrorist plots of September 11, 2001 became the most significant attack on American soil to date. September 11, 2001 was seen as the attack of Islamic fascism and democracy. (Carr 293) benefited Bin Laden by Khalid Sheik Mohammed, his informant. (Carre 298). The planes were carefully chosen for them. They chose a Tuesday because the flights were generally quiet. (Stewart 51). Before the September 11 attacks, the hijackers had all taken flying lessons in the United States, costing them $250 each time. (Stewart 53). When they were taking flying lessons, some say the hijackers hid weapons at the airport. Most people say they received help from within (Stewart 51). A month before the September 11 attacks, Bin Laden told the United States that he planned attacks against us. He says the United States is a place of evil and corruption. Bin Laden stated that “it is the duty of Muslims to kill Americans” (Stewart 49). September 15, 2001 Newsweek said: “F... half the paper... Shopping malls in New York City. Other hijackers crashed a plane into the Pentagon, and the passengers who replaced the hijackers on Flight 11 crashed another plane into a field. Years later, on May 2, 2011, the United States sent Navy Seals to Bin Laden's home to kill him. This eliminated another terrorist but it was only part of the war brought by Bin Laden on September 11, 2001.
