The Recording Industry Association of America, also known as the RIAA, has said that music piracy is "a real, ongoing and evolving challenge." It is very easy for a person to purchase a download of an artist's music and simply upload it to peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing sites, such as The Pirate Bay, and allow other users to illegally download the song or album free. This has become a huge problem globally. In America, music piracy causes losses of 12.5 billion dollars in the American economy, which translates into a loss of 2 billion dollars in wages for American workers and, above all, in the loss of jobs up to 70,000 people. Burning a copy of a CD and giving it to another person also falls under the scope of music piracy. According to the book “Pop Song Piracy: Disobedient Music Distribution since 1929” by Barry Kernfeld, it is stated that even photocopying printed music is still a violation of copyright.
