Abraham as a man of ideal faith The question is often asked: "What does it mean to have faith?" “What does it mean to be faithful?” The road to righteousness has always been paved in good faith, and this is a well-known fact. The ideal man of faith, one may reason, would be the man who was the most suitable spiritual companion for God. This would be someone with whom God could speak and fulfill his desires for inner human beings. God would not simply want a servant, but a friend who would walk in his life with God. This is a hard man to find. One place where worshipers of God are always sure to look for an example is the Bible. The Old Testament offers many different examples of men of faith. Some men of faith examined closely in the Old Testament are Abraham, Noah, and Job. Abraham can be seen as the ideal man of faith because his relationship with God surpassed that of Noah and Job. His relationship was ideal as there was real communication and mutual respect. Even though Noah and Job were men of faith, their relationships were not ideal because Noah did not truly communicate and Job lacked both respect and trust in the Lord. Abraham was God's chosen “father of all nations.” He and God shared a relationship that no other man had ever shared with God. God says to Abraham, I will make of you a great nation and will bless you; I will make your name great, so that that may be your blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the communities of the earth......middle of paper......because they have never lacked trust and respect for the Lord. Even when God asked Abraham to kill his son, Abraham never lost respect or trust. He simply had faith. The conclusion to be drawn is quite simple. Abraham was the ideal man of faith, due to his upholding of the vital elements of the ideal, as well as the fact that he was God's best companion. He demonstrated that devotion does not necessarily only mean strict servitude, but also means maintaining a relationship to a level that servants cannot reach. Furthermore, it showed that for a relationship to work, mutual respect is needed and that trust is needed at all times. Faith was never a “sometimes” thing for Abraham. He lived it to the fullest at every moment, which is why he was the ideal man of faith. He did everything it took to be God's ideal companion.
