“Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just emerged from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future” (Elegance par. 1). Chanel was a woman who was always seen wearing her own unique fashion. She would never be seen wearing something that society would see as something a normal woman would wear; this made it unforgettable (Charles-Roux 5-6). At first Chanel was only known for creating and designing hats, but would soon be known for much more (Charles-Roux 91). Because of Chanel's bold new ideas, the women's fashion industry changed forever (Charles-Roux 6). Famous French fashion designer Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, more commonly known as Coco Chanel, was born in Saumur, France on August 19, 1883 (“Coco Chanel” British par. Chanel is known for not claiming anyone from her family, or anyone she dated relationships before she became rich. She often made up different stories about her parents (Madsen 3). Given the success Coco has had, it may be difficult to believe that she was born and raised in poverty (“Coco Chanel”. Voguepedia par. 3). she spent much of her childhood in an orphanage; due to the fact that her mother died and her father abandoned her (“Coco Chanel.” Britannica par. 2). In the orphanage, Chanel was raised by Catholic nuns they are the reason why Chanel became so famous for two reasons; they taught Chanel to sew and they also taught her to have confidence in her work (“Coco Chanel”. Voguepedia par. 3). I do. It's in my gestures, in the harshness of my voice, in the brightness of my gaze, in my nervous and tormented face” (“Coco Chanel”. Voguepedia par. 3). For the rest of her life she worked incessantly as an artisan and entrepreneur, imposing her personal conception of the art of dressing on an ever-expanding clientele” (Charles-Roux 6-7). Even though Chanel left the fashion industry during the war and was heavily criticized for it, she was and still is one of the most famous designers (Charles-Roux 7-8). Until her death, Chanel continued to work on new models that were accustomed to her style (“Coco Chanel Biography” par. 20). In 1971, Chanel died at the age of 88. Even today his house still exists. Chanel is buried in Switzerland with five stone lions surrounding her grave (Gabrielle par. 1). Because of Chanel's bold new ideas, the women's fashion industry changed forever (Charles-Roux 6).
