Topic > The Monstrosity in Metamorphosis - 1267

The monstrosity continues to grow as Gregor's voice begins to change. On page 14, the prosecutor states: “that was the voice of an animal.” With this statement Gregor has already been classified as an animal and not as a man. Kafka has already made the other characters perceive Gregor as an animal/monster before they even see him. Gregor was also shocked and surprised by this sudden change in voice. As the story unfolds, you can see that Gregor was the only one who was transformed into a "monster". Gregor is actually the one who remains pretty constant throughout the story. Yes, he starts acting like an insect, but his thoughts have always been human, unlike the rest of his family. They went from being compassionate and dependent to being cold and independent. They saw no use in Gregor, so potentially excluded him from the family. They went from trying to understand the transformation to wanting him dead and out of this world
