Elizabeth Taylor was considered one of the most famous movie stars in the world. She has been recognized for her beauty, acting skills and glamorous lifestyle. To outsiders, Elizabeth's life seemed flawless. However, not everything in his life was as perfect as it seemed. Elizabeth was born at her parents' home in the suburb of Hampstead Garden, northwest London, England, on February 27, 1932 (Christopher, para. 1). Her parents, Francis Taylor, an art dealer, and Sara Warmbrodt, a former actress, were Americans originally from Arkansas City, Kansas. Shortly before World War II, his parents decided to return to the United States and settle in Los Angeles, California. At first, many scouts were interested in the beautiful Elizabeth, soon Universal Pictures wanted to sign her, but when Universal learned that MGM was also interested, President John Cowden of Universal Pictures called from New York: "Sign her up, he ordered, Don't even wait for the audition." Universal then gave her a seven-year contract (Walker 31). At the age of nine, Elizabeth appeared in There's a Born Every Minute, her first and only film for Universal Pictures. After about a year the studio fired Elizabeth for unknown reasons (Heymann 33). Francis Taylor, Elizabeth's father, was informed by MGM producer Sam Marx that the studio was looking for an English actress for a film. Elizabeth got the part and was offered a long-term contract with MGM in early 1943. Elizabeth recalled that she chose MGM because "people had been nicer to her when she went to the audition" (32). MGM cast Taylor in Lassie. He returns home with child star and soon-to-be lifelong friend, Roddy McDowall. The film caught the attention of both actors, which led MGM to sign...... middle of paper...... top actresses from Hollywood's golden age, now the life of Elizabeth doesn't look as glamorous as Hollywood made her out to be.Works CitedChristopher, James.
