Topic > The Great Firewall: The Negative Impact of the Internet...

Due to the blocking of "sensitive" or "harmful" information, blogs and social media tools are not as open to use to speak freely of any topic, especially political issues. The “Great Firewall” affects Chinese citizens, but also students who decide to study abroad in China. Most students have left their country where there are little or no restrictions. These international students must keep in mind that the topics discussed in China are sensitive and sometimes even limited. They need to know the boundaries of what is acceptable to discuss and what is not. Internet censorship does not need to be unblocked immediately and completely, but progress should be made to reduce restrictions and allow greater access to Chinese citizens. There are restrictions imposed on the Internet for certain things in other parts of the world, but they are not as severe or intensified as in China. Once again, Internet censorship in China has fostered a lack of education and culture that allows citizens to think creatively and speak for themselves.
