Passion for contributing to the student learning experience in meaningful, relevant, and lasting ways. A teacher's great passion for the profession should be transferable to students in the form of a desire to learn. As an adjunct biology instructor at Savannah Technical College in Savannah, Georgia, I have the privilege of inspiring the passion of students who do not have a science background. Most of these students are changing careers into the healthcare profession and there is always trepidation about the sciences; Anatomy and Physiology courses must be specific for non-scientific specializations. I have the arduous task of governing. Compliments for my work come from different quarters, including: the interim dean of the faculty of natural sciences, students and colleagues. A great teacher knows that teaching is about substance and training students as consumers of knowledge. That said, a great teacher keeps abreast of advances in his or her fields by attending conferences and reading scholarly journals in his or her disciplinary field. However, knowledge is not limited to academic journals, but is also about bridging the gap between theory and practice by encouraging and coordinating hands-on activities that are the best learning method for some.
