In the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare two young lovers lost their lives when hate and love collided. From the Montagues came Romeo and from the Capulets was Juliet. The two families were at war and Romeo and Juliet could not bear to be without each other. They both committed suicide because they thought life wasn't worth living without the other. While there are many who can be blamed for this tragic ending, there are three who are most responsible. Mercutio, The Nurse, and Friar Laurence are the three who deserve the most blame. Mercutio, although a minor character, had a huge impact on the outcome of the play. Before the Capulets' ball, Romeo had debated whether or not to go. Mercutio convinced him to go by giving him a great speech about a dream he had had. This makes him partially responsible because the Ball is where Romeo meets Juliet for the first time. Mercutio also caused Romeo's expulsion from Verona. Mercutio got into a fight with Tybalt and died. Her death enraged Romeo enough that he killed Tybalt in revenge. When the prince saw what had happened, he sent Romeo into exile. Romeo's exile in Mantua made it almost impossible for Romeo and Juliet to see each other. Mercutio was responsible, if only in part, for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The Nurse was also responsible for the tragic ending of the opera. When Romeo and Juliet met, the Nurse became their messenger. He helped them stay together even though he knew that Romeo was a Montague and that Juliet's family would disapprove. The Nurse brought Juliet the news of Romeo telling her to sneak out so they could get married. She helped Juliet out of the house by bringing her a rope ladder to climb down from the balcony and telling her parents that she had been wandering around. The Nurse kept Romeo and Juliet's marriage a secret from the families. When Juliet's parents said that she should marry Paris, the Nurse agreed and said that Juliet should forget about Romeo because he was in Mantua. No longer having the Nurse at her side, she had no one to help and support her other than the Friar. In this way he had a great impact on the terrible ending of Romeo and Juliet.
