Topic > Ethical Decisions in Nursing - 1906

I chose to go into nursing because I had taken a sports medicine course in high school that I liked and I thought I would be guaranteed a job as a graduate student that had something to do with it. do with medicine. I remember being so excited to learn about diseases, medications, and all the differences between procedures performed in the hospital. At the time I thought a nurse's job was to do what the doctors said, and I expected guidelines to be established telling me what I could and couldn't do. I had no idea that I was entering such a complex career path and that the skills I had dreamed of learning were such a small part of nursing compared to the emotional, decision-making and critical thinking skills that a nursing career possesses. requires. Nursing ethics was not something that ever crossed my mind when I chose to take this path, however now ethics is something I think about every day I practice, both in clinical and theoretical courses. Ethical theories often arise from the idea that because we are human beings we have an obligation to look out for the interests of others (Kozier et al., 2010), however in nursing practice ethics is not just a personal choice but a professional responsibility . I focus on two more streamlined findings from the BNUR (University of Calgary, 2013) relevant to my understanding of nurses as ethical decision makers. I will describe the ways in which I have seen ethics used and not used in practice, what I have learned about ethics and its use in my theoretical courses and during my practices, and I will reflect on how this understanding will translate into my professional practice moving forward. .BNUR Learner OutcomesThe two leanest outcomes from BNUR (University of Calgary, 2013) that I believe...... half of the paper......, Snyder, S., Raffin Bouchal, D., and Hirst, S .et al.
