You may have heard someone say the famous saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” You may also have heard, “I am rubber and you are glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you.” Unfortunately these claims are not as realistic as they might seem. Studies show that 5,000 teenagers commit suicide every year, and US society often ignores the signs that lead to teen suicide. Then they realize it when it's too late. Unfortunately we say “we didn't see the signs” and blame society, but we don't realize that we are society. It probably hurt us more than anything. Bullying can push someone to their breaking point, leading them to believe they're not worth it and start thinking about suicide. Statistics show that suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people between the ages of 15 and 19. About 5,000 teenagers kill themselves every year in the United States alone. Most teenagers have thought about suicide at some point. Even though it may not seem like it, most teens try to ask for help. Depression, anxiety and bullying are the main causes of suicide. If someone is suicidal you can notice it by their sad moods or feelings. They may lose interest in activities they once enjoyed. As if their favorite sport was no longer their top priority. You may notice that they don't talk to their friends like they used to. They began to isolate themselves from others. Instead of going out with their family, they will find an excuse to go out or go to their room so they can be alone. Teenagers who usually joke or talk about suicide are suicidal. Unfortunately, there are many teenagers who intentionally harm themselves. Depressed teenagers who have been bullied or who are... center of paper... get help with depression now and get help to stop bullying. Bullying that leads to depression can be fatal for the victim if left untreated. So not only can depression lead to suicide, but bullying or pushing someone to the breaking point will also be a major consequence. It's not just the fault of the person who plans to commit suicide, it's also the fault of society. Imagine if you were that person. Don't you wish someone could help you? There is special help to prevent suicide, yet it still happens. If you notice signs of depression in yourself or someone you know, seek help immediately to prevent something from happening. Above all, think before you speak. To you your words may seem merciless but to others they can really hurt. No one should have to give up their life because of something you found “funny.” Don't be the reason someone makes a permanent decision for a temporary situation.
