I love technology, but I don't want it to take over my life. I love my laptop, the ease of typing whatever I want and having lots of choices in front of me to think about, it's wonderful, convenient and makes my life so much easier. I like to go on YouTube and find an instructional video that shows me how to sand a tabletop and paint it, or watch my favorite band perform a new song, or listen to a Ted Talk. I found almost everything I was looking for and was able to choose which information was credible. I think sometimes you have to tell people that not everything you read online is accurate and you can't always take it at face value, so, like a good journalist, check and then recheck your sources. I certainly can identify in part with Carr's essay and his concerns that we may be turning into a society of pancake brains. Even though I'm a firm believer in the internet and technology in general, I decided a long time ago not to let it suck me in and that's what seems to have happened to a lot of people over time.
