Topic > Pros and Cons of the Affordable Care Act - 1244

With approximately 30 million Americans expected to gain health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, the healthcare workforce is feeling the strain. An already evident problem is the serious shortage of healthcare professionals. The ACA fails to deliver on its promises of healthcare access and quality for all Americans, exacerbating shortages and increasing the burden and stress on healthcare providers. The ACA has attempted to address the shortage of health care professionals, but its efforts won't produce results for years because of training requirements. Another daunting problem is the approximately 190 million hours of paperwork imposed on healthcare companies each year. With a shortage of healthcare workers, patients will continue to suffer as they face longer wait times, limited access to providers, and reduced time with healthcare providers. The burden of patient satisfaction will fall on healthcare providers. This will increase stress and instability among healthcare workers and put patient care at risk. In conclusion, there are many positive aspects to the Affordable Care Act. The idea that every American has insurance is a great goal, but we must address the burden that will be placed on the healthcare community and all populations. The financial burdens placed on those already on fixed budgets will continue to have negative implications for communities across the United States. The Affordable Care Act is not the savior of the United States healthcare system. There are still many problems that are not addressed in the plan and cannot be swept under the carpet
