Social workers have a responsibility to their clients to respect their privacy and if the client cannot trust us with this, a relationship will never form. Social workers must fight for the confidentiality of individuals, including families. Social workers are legally obligated to respect their clients' privacy and keep their information away from third parties (NASW, 2008, p.7-8). Upholding all these standards would assure clients that social workers truly care about their well-being. When rights are taken away from users, it is our job as social workers to take on the necessary role and connect users with resources. For example, if a customer's health information has been breached by one insurance company, it is our job to connect them to a better one
