Importance of Total Productive Maintenance in Manufacturing IndustriesThe globalization process that is becoming popular in today's manufacturing markets is one of the major forces influencing an organization's business. To stay in the race, organizations need to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their production methods. Equipment efficiency and effectiveness play an important role in the modern manufacturing industry to determine the performance of organizational production improvement along with the level of success achieved in the organization. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is a methodology that aims to increase the availability of existing equipment thereby reducing the need for additional capital investments. TPM is best known as total production maintenance, where the word total represents the overall employee involvement, the total number of production equipment, and the total processes of the production system. Productive means generating and getting the most out of any set of inputs, and maintenance means the careful management and maintenance of Factory assets and equipment. Today, TPM can also mean Total Production Management and Total Perfect Management. Therefore, total productive maintenance is a holistic approach to equipment maintenance that aims to achieve perfect production. According to Baluch, Abdullah, and Mohtar (2012), TPM has its origins in Nippondenso, a subsidiary of Toyota Motors Company in the late 1960s. . In the early 1970s it became popular throughout Toyota Motors and later formed the backbone of the famous Toyota Production System. Furthermore, the researchers also mention that the Toyota Production System is a… half paper terminology… and may take a year to implement. It can be used not only in the manufacturing industry, but also in the service industry, construction, building maintenance and a variety of other applications. However, during the implementation of total production maintenance, there are some difficulties which fall into some categories such as implementation and technical issues, management and cultural issues. In short, cultural change is the most important factor in TPM implementation, which means that the manufacturing organization needs real support from top management to overcome any kind of resistance among employees, middle managers and workers. To overcome these types of problems when implementing total production maintenance, engagement by both employees and managers in any change process that occurs in the company should occur with a full understanding of the mission and objective of that change..
