Emotional intelligence is “a set of skills that allow you to apply thoughts and feelings to make optimal decisions.” (SEI Leadership Report, 2013) In the report, the author makes a critical analysis of the result of the SEI report. By presenting the analysis of 'Know Thyself', 'Choose Thyself' and 'Treat Thyself', the author has a clearer understanding of her strengths and weaknesses regarding her EQ. Based on the skills and analysis, the author applies the theory to her future professional career development in order to achieve her professional goal.2. Know thyself2.1. Improving Emotional Literacy According to the SEI report, the author has become “functional” as a detailed outcome related to “Improving Emotional Literacy”. In other words, the author had awareness and clarity on the essential factors of her and her teammates' behavior. (SEI Leadership Report, 2013, p. 11) With this ability to recognize one's emotions, the author can make strategic use of feelings to match emotions to the task. (Gardner and Qualter, 2010) Furthermore, based on the knowledge of his own emotions, the author also has a good understanding of the emotional messages of others and can receive good responses at the appropriate emotional level. For the author, the report provides a clearer illustration for her of the level of improvement in emotional literacy she achieves. Can identify the feelings of others and grasp their causes and effects. The author knows that this is a resource that she can use to achieve high performance in her work. However, he must know how to apply this skill when he is stressful or under pressure.
