Photosynthesis is the process that plants undergo and consists of a series of chemical reactions that require four factors; water, carbon dioxide, radiant energy and temperature using chlorophyll molecules to trap radiant energy from the sun resulting in the production of glucose and oxygen as byproducts. The process of photosynthesis provides plants with the food and energy they need to grow. Plants that produce their own food are called autotrophic plants. These plants not only produce food for themselves, but also serve as primary producers. Without photosynthesis, oxygen levels in the atmosphere would not be replenished. The process of photosynthesis is divided into two main parts. The first phase is the light-dependent phase that occurs in the chloroplast grana. This reaction occurs when light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll and then transforms light energy into chemical energy. The energy from these energized electrons is now used to split water molecules. Thus leading to the release of oxygen from the plant as a by-product. The light-dependent phase, otherwise known as the Calvin cycle, occurs in the stroma of the chloroplasts. In this process NADP.H is fixed with carbon dioxide to produce glucose. Sunlight is a necessity for the process of photosynthesis to occur. My aim in this investigation is to verify the necessity of light for the process of photosynthesis. Energy from the sun is lost in our atmosphere due to many factors. The energy it is able to hold is just enough for plants to use in the process of photosynthesis to produce and store energy in the form of sugar molecules. The plant does not use all the light that reaches it. It uses only certain colors of the light spectrum to allow the process of photosynthesis... in the middle of the paper... from the fact that they are in dry soil. This is then caused by water evaporated from the soil by the sun. On the other hand, plants can "drown" if over-watered. If you plant a plant in a humid area that has constant water and only needs a minimal amount of water to survive, it will drown. Wilting is not always caused by human error, but is also the result of dry air or humid air. Dehydrated plants become flaccid and are unable to support their own mass and wilt. Sunlight is a necessity when it comes to plant growth, but too much sun is harmful and plants therefore need a perfect balance between hours of light and hours of darkness. Overexposure will cause damage and underexposure will cause malnutrition in the plant. Fertilizer should be provided to plants that require more maintenance for proper growth. And without fertilizer the plant will suffer from malnutrition.
