Topic > Essay on Self-Care: The Idea of Self-Care - 2611

I once heard a professor say that the greatest thing a pastor can give to his church is to love his wife, I thought about it a lot and I agree. Jesus told us to love God and secondly to love our neighbor. Who would be considered our greatest neighbor? I believe it would be your spouse, there is no greater neighbor than your spouse. This means that the second most important thing to do in life is to love your spouse. First God, then your spouse. It is our greatest ministry here on earth, our marriage. Love God, then our spouse, then our children as the next “neighbor” to ourselves. After our children, third place goes to our distant relatives and/or closest friends, after which our neighbors decrease, but we are all still called to love all people as our "neighbors". For me they are like concentric circles around our lives, the closest ones in the circle are the bigger “neighbors”. This is just common sense. Jesus spent most of his time ministering to or loving those closest to Him. Even within the twelve He had an inner circle of three people to whom Jesus clearly ministered the most. We are called to love those closest to us and this works out like the life of Jesus. In His life, when a person breaks into His circle and gets His attention, He responds, cares for them, loves them and assists them , we are called to be the same. Love God and love ours
