Report on the book "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain tells the story of Tom, an imaginative and troubled boy who never misses an opportunity to have an adventure. The story is set in mid-nineteenth century St. Petersburg, Missouri. The novel has several themes that include love, imagination, rebellion and superstition. One of the main themes the author talks about in this book is childhood love. Tom felt different emotions when he met Becky Thatcher for the first time. As we read in the book: "He worshiped this new angel with a furtive eye, until he saw that she had discovered him; then he pretended not to know that he was present, and began to "show off" in all sorts of absurd childish displays. ways, to win his admiration." (p.17) He later tries to get Becky's attention with a doorknob and, out of excitement, accidentally mentions his former love, Amy Lawrence, causing the relationship to collapse. To show us the pain that Betty is going through, the author carefully chooses his words to show us how powerful love is. The statement: "So she (Becky) sat down to cry again and reproach herself; and at this point the scholars began to gather again, and she had to hide her grief and still her broken heart and take upon herself the cross of a long, sad, painful afternoon, with no one among the strangers around her to exchange sorrows with." (p.52) explains the previous fact. For the end-of-year exploration, Tom's entire class goes on a trip to a cave. When Tom and Becky realize that they are lost in the caves, he constantly tries to console her and give her some hope for their escape. The passage on page 187, "He sat beside her and embraced her; she hid her face in his bosom, she clung to him, she poured out to him her terrors, her useless regrets, and the distant echoes turned them all too much laughter of mockery." it reminds us of a love that exists between the two children. Aside from his love for Becky, Tom also loves his Aunt Polly and sees her as if she were his mother. Even though Tom uses every trick in his book to manipulate or deceive his aunt, he does not intend to cause her any harm. When Aunt Polly accuses Tom of lying about his dream, he agrees but says he kissed her before he woke up..
