Topic > The Pros and Cons of Cloning - 1264

Greg Jaffe, spokesman for the Center for Science in the Public Interest, once said that “one of the problems [I've] had with cloning is that precisely because we can do something scientifically, [doesn't] mean we should do it.” Just because the technology has developed and cloning has a small chance of being successful, doesn't mean it should be everyone's first priority. You must first think about the positive, negative aspects and side effects of cloning. A clone is an “organism genetically identical to the unit or individual from which it derives”. Many think that the clones are exactly identical twins in both appearance and personality; I'm not. As the clones grow, different personalities begin to emerge just like everyone else. There can also be minimal or immense differences in appearance as most clones are born with terrible deformities and defects. Cloning of both animals and humans has been proven to be very risky. Furthermore, there is a very remote possibility that the cloning process will be successful. Through somatic cell nuclear transfer, one of the processes used for cloning, only 0.1% to 3% of clonings work. Even today, no successful human clones have been made. There have been many rumors, but there was no scientific proof that such rumors were believed to be true. However, numerous animal clones have been made. Many scientists and civilians believe that human and animal cloning should not be used for any type of research or reproduction. Notably, Dolly, a female lamb, is the first mammal ever cloned by Dr. Ian Wilmut from Scotland. It is the best known animal clone in the world. It didn't have a good chance of being born, but... middle of paper... it's a possible solution for future problems. Dolly, the first mammal ever successfully cloned, had no chance of becoming a successful clone. Of the 29 embryos only one resulted in a pregnancy. SCNT and artificial embryo cloning are the two main processes used for cloning. They should end up producing two genetically identical clones. There are also many types of cloning that have a chance of success, such as genetic, reproductive, and therapeutic cloning. Many cloning experiments leave side effects on humans or animals. Overall, each religion has its own view on the cloning aspect. Cloning of animals and humans can leave the clone with many side effects and deformities. Why should anyone suffer just so a scientist can perform an experiment? Cloning is wrong and is an artificial way of reproducing.
