The flashing yellow lights turned bright red, signaling me to an abrupt stop a short distance from the Pembroke Pines Fire Department. Somewhere there was a fire or some other emergency and the firefighters were preparing to leave. I desperately wanted to avoid rush hour traffic home, but my frustration took a backseat to the thought of the lives that might hang in the balance, awaiting the swift arrival of these brave men and women. Men and women who were committed to saving lives in the most dangerous circumstances. As I waited, I caught a glimpse of the last firefighter climbing down the pole, running frantically to grab the departing fire truck. Soon the red truck zoomed by and let me go to continue my rush-hour rush. As I walked away from the firehouse my thoughts turned to my career and how much, as a lawyer, I too long to have the same passion, determination and commitment that I saw reflected on the face of that last firefighter. After all, in some way, I would also be saving lives. Every area of our lives is governed by law, and sometimes, having a committed advocate by your side, someone who will represent you with passion and well-directed determination, can literally mean the difference between life and death. We've all heard stories of lawyers who worked tirelessly and against all odds to get their wrongly accused clients released from death row. We hear less, however, about the lawyer who works tirelessly and against all odds to help his client access health care benefits and life-sustaining medications that can make the difference between life and death. And we also hear less about the lawyer who works zealously to help his cl...... middle of paper ......with the same passions and aspirations as me. Strong willpower, sense of determination, values of hard work and desire for success in my life, and desire to make an impact in someone else's life, drive me to pursue success in the legal field. Gaining acceptance into Loyola Law The school would put me on the path to being in that firefighter's place, ready to respond to a duty I so long to fulfill. It would give me the opportunity to impact lives and my community in a positive and affirming way. If you would grant me the opportunity to be among the members of your next entering class and to earn a law degree from a prestigious institution like yours, I would bring to my studies the same determination, perseverance and assiduity that I will bring to the practice of law. After all, this is what it takes to save lives.
