Have you ever wanted to own a thrilling mansion that leaves people breathless upon arrival? Americans are always encouraged to succeed in life and find a job that meets all their potential needs in life. Living the American Dream would be about finding a life's work to find a perfect home to reside in. A perfect home would be one where the family can live comfortably and appreciate coming home after a long day at work. . The American dream is defined as owning a home, however this is more difficult today due to loans and high interest rates. The “American Dream” is something we constantly hear about throughout elementary school, owning a big, beautiful house with a white picket fence to keep the bad guys out. Everyone seems to have heard of the “American Dream” but no one seems to really know what this dream is about. The dream could simply be a false reality, or it could be something so close to the edge of our fingers that we just need to hold on to it. The dream we hear about in school as children is not just a made up story, all Americans have to do to sustain the dream is work hard to make it happen. Furthermore, today, in 2014, the “American dream” is to own a beautiful home, where the family feels comfortable and safe. However, today it is extremely difficult for many families to achieve this goal. For example, according to Frank Newport “It is clear that the hope of being able to buy a house is relatively strong even in the minds of those with a lower than average income, given that between 35% and 40% of Americans earn less than $50,000 a year year say that although they do not currently own a home, they intend to purchase one in the future. About a third of those earning less… half the paper… some families get to see this so far out of existence it is extremely disheartening for many. According to Samantha Sharf, “Home affordability is declining in all 25 largest metropolitan areas in the United States.” It is nearly impossible for some Americans to achieve the “American Dream.” Works Cited ENTITOLO, DIRETTO. “Owning a home and the American dream go hand in hand.” BusinessWire (English) July 0002: Regional Business News.Newport, Frank. “The American dream of homeownership lives on, even for young people.” Gallup Poll Briefing (2013): 1.
