His journey was supposed to take nine hours to reach his destination, but due to unforeseen circumstances, it somehow took longer. The story describes the will to survive in a difficult environment. The man and dog set out to meet the boys at camp, but many mishaps occurred that delayed him, such as getting his feet wet and trying to make a fire to keep warm. Ultimately, the harsh environment won out and the man ended up dying. The man was stubborn. He was determined to beat the odds to travel across the Yukon to meet the boys. Even though he had been warned not to go out alone in the Klondike, especially if it was fifty below zero, he was determined to go out despite any advice. Being stubborn is a good trait to have, but you have to look at the consequences.
