Dental hygiene is a dynamic and challenging career that offers teamwork, personal growth, and amazing benefits, and it is the perfect career for me. As a healthcare professional, the dental hygienist is an important member of the dental team providing patient care. Good qualities for a dental hygienist are compassion and enjoyment of talking to people, two qualities that fit my personality. I love the thought of knowing that I have made a positive impact on a person's health. To become a dental hygienist professionally you must obtain a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene. They target the average American by educating them about dental care. A dentist helps people with their dental health, which can have a big impact on a person's daily life. “The dentist diagnoses and treats problems with the patient's teeth, gums, and related parts of the mouth and provides advice and instructions on how to care for and make dietary choices that affect oral health” (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Dentists are trained to diagnose, prevent and treat various problems associated with the teeth and mouth tissues to recognize them through observation of artistic x-rays and different images of the mouth. The main goal of dental care is to teach patients how to prevent gum disease, tooth loss, etc. Dentists examine the teeth and oral tissue of the patient to diagnose and treat problems. After discovering it, he later used it in his surgeries. Numerous advancements in the field of dentistry have consisted of equipment, materials, and techniques competing against each other. In 1864, vulcanized rubber was introduced as a substitute for people who could afford expensive gold dentures. The first dental school to be merged with a university was Harvard University, in 1867. Most dentists were still trained in a preceptorship system with an actual established dentist. The real beginning is the licensing in the United States that first occurred in 1868, with the states of New York, Ohio and Kentucky.
