How could immigrants, legal or illegal, generate any kind of positive economic prosperity in the United States if these people aren't even from the country. Well, the crux of the matter is not in “these people”, it is in us, the lower and middle working class people. . “But obviously wealthy businessmen like me are not the real job creators, in fact our customers are the real job creators. We are not the center of the economic universe, they are” (Hanauer). The above quote comes from an entrepreneur and venture capitalist named Nicholas Hanauer, CEO of Pacific Coast Feather Company. Hanauer plays the role of a savvy entrepreneur in the short documentary titled “Inequality for All,” created by Robert Reich, the previous head of the Department of Labor during President Clinton's tenure. Hanauer explains: “We need to replace trickle-down economics with middle-out economics. And indeed, in every place on Earth where prosperity is found, enormous amounts of investment are found in the middle class and the poor. Because in the end they are the real creators of jobs. The greatest thing you can do is help middle-class people thrive.” This quote assumes that the focus is exactly where immigrants meet within the classification structure of the United States economy. As mentioned earlier in the research, immigrants are filling the void of jobs and careers that many Americans choose not to pursue. This could be anything from landscaping to construction, and ultimately, this is how they bridge the gap between the lower working classes of the United States. But as was the case with settlers coming to America by the tens of thousands for prosperity, we would need large numbers of immigrants to enter this enormous country to fill the job voids of said center.
