The relationships between parents and children in Shakespeare are shown very creatively and enthusiastically. Shakespeare's play characterizes how children get along with their parents. Some of the family relationships shown in Shakespeare's play are strict with many rules that all family members must follow. Some examples of works written by Shakespeare are: “The Merchant of Venice”, “Romeo and Juliet” and “King Lear”. There are many pieces of Shakespeare that include children not obeying their parents' wishes; while there are other plays written by Shakespeare in which children obey the will of their parents. Each Shakespeare text offers the audience a different lens and a different point of view. There are also symbols used in plays that often indicate significant meaning. Irony, foreshadowing, and figurative language are used to show a sense of understanding within the characters.
