Human rights are the natural rights of every human being. The United Nations implemented the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948. One of the major problems facing human rights is slavery. Slavery began in the 1600s in North America, currently slavery cannot be considered legal. Nowadays there is no culture that can force someone into slavery, unfortunately this still continues in many parts of the world mainly through human trafficking. There are now more people trafficked and enslaved than in the entire 18th and 19th centuries. Human trafficking and slavery also constitute gender-based violence. There are varieties of slavery, such as forced child labor, forced labor, sex trade known as “white slavery”…etc. This essay will discuss and outline Article 4 “No one shall be held in slavery or servitude.” Human trafficking is a social problem; causes serious human rights violations related to the abuse of human self-esteem. “Human trafficking violates fundamental human rights – the right to life, the right to choose and the right to free life” (Aramov, Slavov, Taneva 2013). No one voluntarily participates in human trafficking, traffickers encourage victims with imaginative promises or force, some willingly leave their country hoping to find a good job and live in peace, but unfortunately they end up in a bad situation where their life is put to the test. Furthermore, this leads to the disadvantage of victims' human rights, such as the right to be master of their own body and mind, the freedom to decide on their own future and the right to choose. Due to the economic crisis in the world, more and more women have entered prostitution. However, poverty and lack of education lead people to find work and this gives traffickers an advantage in capturing the minds of poor victims and forcing them to work. Furthermore, due to some people's dirty fantasies, children are trafficked and forced into prostitution and housework.
