An interesting case Every profession has standards or rules to follow and in the medical world these rules are crucial. Medical imaging professionals follow two sets of guidelines; the code of ethics and ethical rules. The purpose of the standards is to establish high levels of ethical conduct, promote the safety, comfort, and protection of patients, and serve as a guide for technologists to perform their work in accordance with other members of society (Quizlet, n.d.). As human beings we make mistakes, but many of them can be avoided if only we followed the rules that were set for us. There are many situations in which we are fortunate that patients or others are not physically harmed, but we still need to be penalized to learn from our mistakes. As the future of technology grows, every individual must be careful and understand how social media can become a problem in the work environment. In this case, we can see how one's actions and use of social media could jeopardize a hospital's reputation, a technologist's career, and even a patient's life. Personal information and social media With Facebook and other social media increasing media, we can see drama developing and personal information shared about others. Some people use these sites to communicate with long-distance friends, but others may have more evil intentions. It is very important that healthcare professionals understand that social media and the use of patients' personal information is completely prohibited and subject to heavy consequences and fines. People working in the medical field must enjoy the trust of patients and be able to feel free to share anything regarding their health without fearing the spread of that knowledge. The caseAs h...... half of the paper ..... .ng brought into the work context. In this case, there could have been many different scenarios and outcomes due to Suzy and Mary's actions, but the most important thing to understand is the importance of HIPPA and private patient information. Rules and policies are established to maintain order in the workplace and maintain a neutral environment where patients can feel safe and free to disclose important information. To maintain a healthy and functioning workforce within the medical imaging department, it is important to keep up to date with the ongoing training provided and organize refresher meetings so as to avoid similar situations. Although Mary did not initiate the information breach, she is as guilty as Suzy and ultimately they both should have endured the consequences and understood the importance of the ethical decisions that should have been made.
