I chose this research project because it attracted me. I wanted to know how the criminalization of sex work or prostitution was causing structural violence in society. This presentation itself turned out to be interesting in the sense that it goes against what my friends and I thought. I always thought that criminalizing sex work was a benefit to society because it would stop the flow of HIV and other STDs among sex worker populations. I never realized that it had the opposite effect and, instead of being a beneficiary, caused high-risk environments and greater ease in finding a prostitute. I initially thought that this research project would be about the "Criminalization of Sex Work" and how sex workers stopped working due to criminalization, however, when I found out, it was the complete opposite and that caught my attention and made me curious, and now I completely understand why it was seen as structural violence.
