Renewable energy is a very reliable source of energy in most parts of the world, but the question on most environmentalists and scientists is whether South Africa could use renewable energy efficiently and effectively. Renewable energy could be the solution to many of the country's economic problems such as electricity supply and demand, electricity costs and the need for jobs in South Africa. In this essay I will explain the expenses and disadvantages of renewable energy and talk about the positive aspects of renewable energy. Then I will decide which one I think is most economically feasible and best for the country in its current economic situation. What is renewable energy? The Oxford dictionary defines renewable energy as; Energy from a source that does not run out when used, such as wind or solar energy. In recent years they have been invented many times to simulate the effects of wind or an ocean current. These options may not be economically viable as they use manpower and electricity to create an effect that nature is intended to produce. Another source, http://arena.gov.au, states that renewable energy is energy that can be obtained from natural resources that can be constantly replenished. I believe both of these sources are real, but I believe that excessive use of machines to power these renewable energy plants could prove unnecessary and ineffective. What form of energy does South Africa currently use? South Africa currently uses coal to power its power plants to generate electricity. This is very laborious and requires a lot of time and manpower to keep the country afloat in terms of electricity consumption and in terms of supply and demand, which also affects the wages of workers... middle of paper... . ...if we produced energy and were to implement the use of renewable energy sources we would need a place that would not damage any land or destroy homes. Conclusion I believe we should continue to use coal power as we already have coal power plants in many areas of the country. I think it would be a hassle for South Africa to change its plans in terms of electricity, given the country's struggles with using coal, and the level at which renewable energy is at in terms of reliability and cost-effectiveness it is too low in my eyes to be implemented as the country's energy source. So, finally, I believe that South Africa should continue to use coal as its main source of energy, but should invest in renewable energy for the future when renewable energy will be more reliable and economically viable source of energy, because at the moment there is no it is.
