Gun control is a very sensitive topic in the United States. Mass shootings have made this topic more difficult to address, but America's strong belief in the 2nd Amendment makes it impossible to completely deprive us of our guns. The most recent mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado has sparked increased interest in this topic from both activists and anti-gun advocates. Our culture has always relied heavily on firearms for things like hunting, target shooting, and mostly personal protection. Take away our guns and actually make work safer. This is the question I will try to answer in my short persuasive essay. The first thing I want to draw attention to is the fact that the legalization of guns will lead to more and more gun violence in that country. This information, combined with the fact that the United States has the largest arsenal of private weapons in the world, makes us particularly susceptible to problems related to gun violence. The statistic on how things work is that there is approximately one gun for every person in the United States. And the actual number of firearms is estimated at around 310 million. This is an astonishingly high figure and simply demonstrates the extent of our nation's attachment to our firearms. Throughout the article I will also compare how other nations have maintained our violent gun crime rate. Having a discussion about gun control is impossible without first explaining the United States' Second Amendment. The Second Amendment, in summary, says that every law-abiding U.S. citizen has the right to bear arms supplied by enemies both foreign and domestic and to raise a militia to protect this nation if necessary.
