The craft construction metaphor symbolizes Leroy wanting to start his life over and Leroy wanting to rebuild his life and Leroy wanting to rebuild his relationship with Norma. Leroy's crafting to build a log cabin also foreshadows the outcome of the relationship. One of the reasons why the metaphor of craft construction is important is that it shows that Leroy wants to rebuild his life. Reflecting after the serious accident, Leroy “realized that in all the years he had spent on the road he had never taken the time to look at anything.
