In Judith Butler's article she states that "gender is a performative outcome imposed by social sanctions and taboos". (520) From this statement, we can assume that Butlers links the body's actions to a person's gender. The way you carry yourself and your body language are some examples of how to relate your body to sex. In Susan Williams' article she follows the process of determining the gender of twenty-six girls and their regular regimen for becoming women. Through progression, she learns that the path to becoming a woman is more short-term than she thought.
