In this essay I will explain how the concepts of the Comprehensive Leadership Model (FRLM) apply to the security situation on XYZ Air Base. I will discuss how I would apply these concepts to conduct team building within the Security office and across the base to address serious security issues. Finally, I will formulate an action plan for the Wing Commander, so that he can more effectively combat the alarming trends at the base. Captain Matthews let the security situation on base slide for too long. The problem isn't his lack of desire to solve it; rather it is his lack of leadership that motivates his Security office and makes them work together towards a common goal. It is clear to me that Captain Matthews exhibits some characteristics associated with laissez-faire leadership. He failed to develop his people and take charge of the issue at hand. This lack of leadership has created a security office that doesn't trust and work well together. Colonel Parker was right to replace Captain Matthews and put a new leader in his place. The fact that there were fifteen safety incidents and four deaths while Captain Matthews was responsible for safety is unacceptable. In taking over from Captain Matthews, it is important to realize the lack of leadership that his subordinates have become accustomed to. They are not used to being motivated or having someone appreciate their input. The best way to start my new job is to show my subordinates that I care about them and that I will complete the mission. I would also need more specific information than what you provided. Details like exactly how many drivers have been caught texting or on their cell phones while driving. The first thing to do is establish a strategy to change the situation. I... middle of paper... g, I'm talking on my cell phone or speeding. This safety day would also incorporate any ideas or changes proposed by my team. I'm sure that with the combined experience of the team we could change things both on and off base. In this essay I explained how I would use the FRLM to combat the spate of driving accidents on and off base. The elements of FRLM (transformative and transactional) would be used to transform not only the security office, but also the entire base. Being a solid leader, I would change the base's attitude towards leading while texting, talking and speeding. I have developed an action plan that the Wing Commander can use to reduce traffic accidents involving base personnel. Through tougher fines, rewards and education I would seek to make the base a safer place. The FRLM would play an important role in achieving this goal.
