To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a fictional story in which a black man is accused of a crime against the daughter of one of the most hateful and racist men in all of Maycomb , Alabama. Although the book is considered fictional, it couldn't be more real. Nine black men were "wandering" on a train and ended up being accused of a crime against two white women and known as vial criminals throughout the South. This incident became known as the Scottsboro Trial. Although the book To Kill a Mockingbird and the Scottsboro Trial are very similar, they are also quite different. One of the major differences between To Kill a Mockingbird and the Scottsboro Trial is the women who were allegedly raped. In To Kill a Mockingbird there was only one woman and her name was Mayella Ewell. In the Scottsboro trial there were two women named Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. Another difference is that the raped woman in To Kill a Mockingbird had her father as a witness at her court trial.
