As a supervisor I have learned several things during this year that I have held this position. But one of the biggest challenges during my training was delegating work to my team. A supervisor role can be stressful due to the workload that needs to be done at any given time. But to achieve and maintain successful productivity in one area, there can be many ways, but the most successful one is delegation. Delegating in many situations can be easy or it can be difficult. In my case, learning to delegate to my team was a challenge because I fear rejection, I have no experience in delegating to others and this sometimes causes frustration due to the workload. Delegation is the most difficult skill for a manager or supervisor to learn. As a supervisor of a department there is a great deal of responsibility. My responsibility requires tenacity and dedication to achieve a good result and productive work. Within so much responsibility, comes planning. To get any job done, there needs to be a delegation plan that organizes each employee to know and understand the tasks needed to get the job done. The article “Delegation in Practice” states that “The code requires registrants to 'practice effectively' and 'be responsible for their decisions to delegate tasks and duties to other people.' (Bryant E 22-25). My responsibility is to assign specific jobs to my employees. In my work the employees are divided into different departments but still work together to achieve an exceptional and unique result. For example, in my company we have the jewelry department, every month the department organizes an event that has a cost target to reach. The supervisor's responsibility is to plan the event and delegate to each employee a...... middle of paper......s” it states “Understand that your team is made up of human beings. No one can work non-stop, so time it right. Find out what each employee can handle and avoid overloading them. Most people are at their best when they are constantly busy but not rushed or pressured” (Andrews). I learned that delegation is part of a process and that business problems don't matter, I shouldn't be afraid to delegate tasks to my team. Having a team that helps every day with homework is beneficial for them and me because we are both learning, we can save time, less frustrations trying to do everything myself and I can't be afraid, what's done is done and no one can do not take away. The key is to understand that you can only reach a certain scale and that working with other people is an increasing scale. Delegation is a task that is not learned overnight.
