√ This week we talked about language disorders. Aphasia falls into the category of language disorders. There are two types of aphasia: Broca's and Wernicke's (Heilman, 2002, p. 11).√ There are many linguistic symptoms of Broca's aphasia. The difference between naming objects and using grammatical terms is a hallmark of Broca's apahsia. Mr. Ford was a patient who suffered from this type of aphasia. This type of aphasia includes speech patterns consisting primarily of content words. People with this aphasia also convey nouns in their singular form and their verbs in their simplest form. Another problem that people with Broca's aphasia have is difficulty starting an utterance. Even the most intellectual language is not very widespread (DiNapoli, 2012, p. 48). When it comes to Wernicke's aphasia there are also many linguistic symptoms. Those who suffer from Wernicke's aphasia do not have problems with speech, but their speech is not fluent and does not make sense (DiNapoli, 2012, p.52). Mr. Gorgan experienced psychotic speech (DiNapoli, 2012, p. 53). If the lesion that caused this aphasia was not completely eliminated, production may slowly improve. On the other hand, if this lesion has been eliminated, the patient will most likely no longer be able to speak as before, regardless of the therapy or treatment he receives (DiNapoli, 2012, p. 54). When Grogan was told to identify objects around him, he was only successful with those most familiar to him (DiNapoli, 2012, p. 55). When referring to Broca's aphasia, patients are usually right-handed and typically have a fragile right arm. . Studying his patients, he demonstrated that the left hemisphere plays an important role in reconciling language in right-handed people (Heilman, 20... middle of paper... 2 Language.
