Famous writers of this era gravitated towards poetry and it is within this realm of poetry that Williamworth created the central concepts of what poetry is during the Romantic period with the famous ballads lyrics. According to Theworth, the main idea was to break away from the use of old ways such as Shakespearean poetry and embrace the idea of individualism. The composition of poetry should not be intended to be moralistic, but rather to be spontaneous and free from rules (Greenblatt). He argued that poetry should be derived strictly from the experiences of poets, capturing their emotions and passions, thus coming naturally to the authors. The aspect of making the poem personal to the author meant that the poem was indistinguishable from the writers themselves. Another writer of this era named Percy Shelly endorsed this idea, giving emphasis to the idea of imagination within literature. A poet must use his or her imagination to create a world in which the ordinary things of life are changed to enlighten readers and give them a sense of wonder. Worth stated: "... situations of common life... a certain color of the imagination, whereby ordinary things should be presented to the mind in an unusual aspect,”
