Hospitality is an important part of the operation of a hospital. I feel we need to be generous and friendly to everyone we come in contact with. This includes patients, their families and co-workers. Those who end up in hospital are usually there because there is something wrong with them that makes them unable to care for themselves. Our job is not just to treat them, but to care for them as if they were our own family. We must be generous and take care of their needs, whether medical, spiritual, emotional or physical within reason. We want patients to take care of themselves as much as possible to maintain their independence and dignity. Being friendly with patients and family will help them relax. Being in hospital as a patient or as a patient's family is very stressful and they need us to support them and try to help them stay calm. In some cases, we are all patients have and we need to make sure we have a “friendship” with them
