He thought it would be more applicable to be his own lawyer, even though he already had a lawyer. Since the laws were different, the government side made it difficult for Moore to defend himself. It was less likely that the facts would do him justice from the first day the court's mind should have had him shot dead. Not only that, but they instilled fear in him and his lawyer. The Chief Justice was giving him the hardest time. At the end of the film, when Moore was questioning one of the soldiers who he believed had killed the young woman, the judge didn't want him to ask any questions. The soldier did not answer any of his questions with ease. This made it harder for the judges to hear what Moore had to say because his emotions were coming into play
