According to Lawless and Fox (nd) only 17% of US senators are women, while the remaining 83% are men (p. 1). The quantity of men absolutely exceeds the quantity of women. This is not just true for US senators, Tolleson and Josephson (2000) state that when it comes to US appeals court judges, only 19.6% were women and 80.4% were men (p. 225 ). This is clear evidence that when women don't maintain that strong threshold of aggression and motivation to pursue that power, they don't get very far in the political world.
