Dating back to the times of Queen Victoria and the Industrial Revolution, women's roles in the family, workforce and society have evolved dramatically into today's independent woman. The Industrial Revolution provided new opportunities for women in the workforce, and today many women hold positions that previously would have been dominated by men. In the Victorian era, positions were usually dominated by men, because women and men belonged to separate spheres. Many times in today's culture the roles of men and women are reversed. Today, education is not only available, but also required for everyone. There has been great progress for women in education, and they are often the ones who continue education at the highest levels. Men can be found engaged in housework and women can be the main source of income. The right to vote for women was achieved through the suffrage movement. Today women can even run for public office. In fact, there is a woman running for president of the United States. Without the events that occurred during the Victorian era, women would not have overcome all the obstacles they have
