“Our horse chestnut [tree] is in full bloom, thick with leaves and much more beautiful than last year.”Anne Frank, May 13, 1944Hope grows and never sets maiAnne Frank is a famous author of a book she wrote while in hiding during World War II. There was a tree in her neighbor's garden and she often looked at it (Frank 233, 158, 209, 213). The tree gave hope to Anne Frank (Anne Frank's sapling planted on Capitol Hill). They both shared time together while a very important and tragic event was happening in the world (Anne Frank Tree). The Chestnut Tree was there before Anne Frank went into hiding, during Anne Frank's hiding and a couple of years after Anne Frank went into hiding (Anne Frank Tree). The tree helped Anne Frank overcome difficult times in hiding, giving her hope and mental strength since she was a normal teenager (Mental Health and Function). Even though terrible events were happening in the world, the tree still changed as the seasons passed and grew stronger and bigger every day (Frank 209). Once the Frank family was sent to the concentration camps, the tree did not stop growing and fighting the disease it had (Cohen-Janca 2). The tree continued to fight its disease while Anne Frank fought for its survival and, without knowing it, for the survival of others. First, the tree stood in the courtyard on Keizersgracht 188 long before Anne Frank and the others went into hiding (The Anne Frank Tree). Being around 150-180 years old, it was one of the oldest trees in Amsterdam (Cohen-Janca 2). Trees give people, including teenagers, oxygen and also help clear the mind and relax (Mental Health and Function; Why Getting Outside is So Good for You). When...... middle of paper......014.
