Sitting at the kitchen table in our house we recently built and moved into on the outskirts of Pillager near Camp Jim, I began to question my mother about her childhood. When we started talking about his childhood, I could see a little twinkle in his eye as he remembered how much fun it was to be a kid and not have to worry about all the problems that adults face every day. My mother was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico and by the age of two her family had moved to Colorado. While living in Colorado, my mother's family lived with her father's brother. They stayed in Colorado for a little over a year until her father's job in the Army took them to several East Coast states. The most memorable state was Fayetteville, North Carolina, because it was old enough to actually remember his short stay in the state. Shortly after my mother entered fifth grade, her father received orders to go to Lima, Peru, to help at the military base. There. His family lived in a wonderful house just outside the city. In the beautiful house, my mother's sisters and she created memories they will never forget, like making mud pies with sticks and mud. After two years of living in Lima they moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina for three years, and back to Lima for two years. During all the moves and school changes, my grandmother was the primary caretaker of all the children and made sure they were doing well in school, also making sure there was food ready when everyone got home. His father was the worker of the family, bringing home money to support the family. During school events like softball and other school activities, my grandmother was always there to support the girls, but my mother can only remember one moment... middle of the paper... dates before they even knew her true personality. “I loved my childhood, I couldn't have asked for a better one.” that's what my mother told me about her childhood. My mother lived her childhood to the fullest and enjoyed every second even though she didn't have everything she wanted. As she moved from house to house and school to school, she realized that her best friends forever would be her sisters. To this day, she still talks to her sisters every day even though Larissa lives in Wichita, Kansas. My mother loved playing Barbie, dolls and house with her sisters. Even though their father didn't always seem able to support them, he kept the family together and always made sure they had everything to live a comfortable life. As they grew up, my grandfather became a much bigger part of their lives and does everything to make everyone happy.
