“I think humans will reach Mars and I would like to see it happen in my lifetime” was said by Buzz Aldrin, a NASA astronaut. The former American aeronaut from Montclair, New Jersey, believes that, because it exists, Mars is waiting to be reached by humans. When that happens, he says the human race will “evolve into a two-planet species.” Today Mars is full of canyons, mountains and volcanoes. Although the surface of Mars is very old, scientists have discovered several younger pits, plains, hills and ridges. According to recent reports, lakes and rivers existed billions of years ago, along with an ocean. The low temperatures on the planet cause polar ice caps and water ice to be present. Scientists continue to note several discoveries on the planet that lead them to think that life once existed on the planet. Several clues push scientists to want to find out even more. Many scientists over the past few centuries have wondered whether life on Mars is possible or has ever existed before. To this end, over the past century, scientists have sent several probes and experimental vehicles to the Red Planet to demonstrate that there is a possibility of life on Mars. In the 1960s and 1970s, the US Vikings and Soviet Martian probes were sent by scientists and reached Mars. Data from the Viking landers shows that water molecules were present on the planet. The experimental vehicle Curiosity was sent to Mars to demonstrate that these water molecules actually came from lakes, streams or rivers. The Sojourner, a wheeled robotic vehicle, was sent to Mars in 1997 and shows plains that appear to have been destroyed by floods. This twenty-five pound rover occupied more than one hundred and thirty feet... half of paper... ordinary people, convinced that if someone went to Mars they could survive a variety of organic compounds present may mean that a life is probable. Furthermore, if the trip to Mars in 2023 turns out to be successful, it will demonstrate to everyone that more and more people will move to this other planet in the future. Many people will find it pointless to stay on Earth if they can start a new life somewhere else in the galaxy. Even though the journey will cost America billions and billions of dollars, it is so worth it. A life on Mars could mean living to an older age and being healthier. The purpose of going to the Red Planet is to find out if there is better life elsewhere than on Earth. Just like NASA astronaut, Buzz Aldrin said, humans will most likely reach Mars and when they do they will turn into a two-planet species.
