Topic > Essay on Habitat For Humanity - 1884

Habitat for Humanity The main goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate housing poverty and homelessness by building sufficient and necessary housing that is located in good neighborhoods and communities (Fuller 18). Habitat for Humanity is an effective organization because it promotes housing in developing communities and provides friendship among Americans. Habitat for Humanity helps individuals and families by promoting housing for them. Volunteering is productive. It also gives a satisfying feeling, knowing that you are helping people in need. Last year, in the process of being confirmed in the Catholic Church, this writer did charitable work such as serving food to the homeless at the Dorothy Day House. At first it seemed like giving to charity would be boring, but it was actually fun, it helped people and made a difference in their lives. This study, written in Modern Language Association (MLA) format, includes an interview with one of the people from the Habitat for Humanity group in LeRoy, Minnesota, and examines how Habitat for Humanity developed over time and why it became a so successful. In 1993, Emo Limited built the very first Habitat home in London, Ontario, to celebrate the city's bicentennial (More than Houses 92). Millard Fuller (founder of Habitat for Humanity) has achieved many things over the years. Raised on a simple farm in Alabama, Millard Fuller became a young self-made millionaire. Millard was a very ambitious and determined businessman (“History”). He graduated from Auburn University, Alabama, in 1957. He later attended the University of Alabama Law School in Tuscaloosa. During this time Millard and a college friend started… middle of paper… with homesteaders (Rubel 123). Very often, Habitat homeowners give back to the Habitat for Humanity organization by volunteering to help out with other Habitat projects. They also have a sense that they are making progress in life and that they are progressing towards a desired goal. It tends to bring them happiness (Hammer Theology 250). Frank Stell Jr., a volunteer, said, “I have met a number of people who have become some of my closest friends and have had an impact on my life that I will always appreciate” (More than Houses 179). Humanity is a sufficient organization because it supports housing in growing communities and brings friendship between people. Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built or repaired more than eight hundred thousand homes, assisting more than four million people worldwide (“Habitat for Humanity International”).
