It is important to recognize that we, as Bruins, are all culturally unique but also share commonalities. UCLA as a whole has a broad spectrum of students and faculty with diverse cultural backgrounds. This characteristic is what makes UCLA different in the eyes of many. However, many students do not realize that although we have different cultural backgrounds, we share several fundamental issues. These issues can be global controversies that continue to make their way into the media and require a coming together of different cultures to adequately address. The process of coming together as one is the creation of a community. Over the years, several incidents have occurred at UCLA that have prompted students from different cultural backgrounds to come together as a community. Our diverse community is what gives us a stronger foundation because we are not only looking at issues from different perspectives, but we are showing everyone the vitality of cultural unification. Diversity and community at UCLA bring students and faculty together to encourage and support each other in times when we feel inferior or even ignored by those around us
