Forensic EvaluationForensic evaluations are conducted by psychologists (mental health professionals) for a variety of reasons; when a decision needs to be made based on a matter of law, jurisdiction, insanity, custody, etc. (Heilbrun, Grisso and Goldstein, 2009). Psychologists are also present to provide case services to clarify things and to help determine whether someone has a mental illness or disorder, for example. Forensic assessments can be carried out for the purposes mentioned; however, it can also be done in correctional settings to help offenders cope with their new environment and how they can reintegrate into society after being incarcerated (Heilbrun, Grisso, & Goldstein, 2009). The primary goal of juvenile courts is to attempt to rehabilitate the child and then provide support and assessments to achieve this goal (Jackson, 2008). In the case study provided, the focus of the assessment may be different from that of an adult. Because the client is a minor, he or she may be looking for different answers to different questions. The roles of the psychologist are essential and very crucial and may differ based on the population they are evaluating (Jackson, 2008). There are some things that may need to be considered with a minor that would not be considered with an adult. Furthermore, there are more appropriate tools that can be used in these cases and more people can be involved since a minor is not yet an adult (Jackson, 2008). Factors such as age and multicultural background must be considered in forensic evaluations and can have a very significant impact on the sentence and the case as a whole (Jackson, 2008). Therefore, forensic psychologists must be very knowledgeable and ...... middle of paper ...... and competent information about a client to help determine such things as competency to stand trial, be tried as an adult, credibility of the testimony, etc. Therefore, to get the best possible information both through individual tools and from third-party resources, you should do your utmost to gather what is needed for a successful testimonial. There are certain factors that forensic psychologists and courts must consider to make the best possible decision for your case. It is the important elements of the case, compliance with codes of ethics and compliance with the principles of forensic evaluation that will lead to precise, confident, meticulous, competent and undoubted testimony. I'm happy that Brenton Butler was found innocent. This proves that good arguments and valid scientific evidence always trump unethical and incompetent work.
