INSIGHT In Dr. Duane H. Elmer's book Cultural Servitude: Serving the World with Christian Humility, Dr. Elmer explains how we must fully fulfill the Great Commission following the example of Jesus. In this book, Dr. Elmer invites the reader to look into their hearts as we build the planes to spread the Gospel throughout the world by serving with humility. Elmer divides his book into three parts on servitude, each containing several chapters. In the first section of the book Dr. Elmer takes a look at the basics of service starting in chapter one where he discusses the burden and challenges of service, then in chapter two he focuses on one point about being a servant using the example of Jesus to be a servant. In the third chapter, Dr. Elmer examines humility and how one positions oneself as a servant. In the second part of the book this is where Dr. Elmer puts the most emphasis and that is the process of service. Starting in chapter four, explore the openness to ideas that someone needs to feel comfortable being with someone from a different culture. Chapter five deals with the idea of acceptance and respect and seeing people as God sees people when they first meet someone new. Chapter six deals with trust, which can accelerate the creation of trust in new relationships between different cultures. Chapters seven and eight deal with the learning idea that, according to Dr. Elmer, learning about a different culture can help correct mistakes someone may have perceived about the culture they are in. they are working. In these chapters the idea is to learn valuable information about people and how they function in their culture. Chapter nine is about looking through other eyes to see how the cu...... middle of paper ...... as well as those who live in a different country. CONCLUSION This is a fantastic book and, as mentioned before, is a must not only for religious leaders but also for lay ministers looking to go on missions, although it focuses on overseas missionary work, the lessons it offers can be used here in the United States as well. Those who read this book can help them be more available and open to those they meet from different cultures, but to be open a missionary must be able to eliminate some stereotypes he has learned. it's one thing a person can take from this book and nothing else is the way we should see people and the way God sees people. Dr. Elmer is also right when he says “that all who desire to follow Jesus must desire to be servants. We need to put the robe aside and get the towel.”
