Synthetic drugs are common throughout China, affecting the country in many ways. Drugs were created for medicinal uses to help treat injuries or illnesses, however there are drugs that are exploited due to the body's reaction to the drug such as narcotics. A simple definition of synthetic refers to “Man-made” (Van). The main purpose of synthetic drugs is for medicinal uses. This means it is useful for helping people recover from illness or injury. Since synthetic drugs are man-made, the ingredients used in the process are artificial or may contain natural ingredients. For example, aspirin, which is a synthetic drug, is used to relieve headaches and muscle pain. The influence of synthetic drugs is spreading across China like wildfire, affecting citizens' lives economically, politically and socially. you use medicines or products as a cheap alternative to the natural version of the drug. However, there are synthetic drugs which, produced for medicinal purposes, are instead exploited for profit (Van). Synthetic drugs can simply be defined as artificial or not occurring naturally in the world (Van). Synthetic drugs are created through pharmaceutical methods or mass-produced in large factories containing ingredients that have been formulated or resemble natural ones. This category contains illicit drugs such as methamphetamine commonly known as meth and many other drugs that are trafficked (Elian). These drugs have life-threatening physiological and psychological side effects. The reason these drugs are consumed is because of the reaction or effect that the user experiences while taking the drug. Addiction occurs due to the euphoric high and users want to achieve that high again. This is why there are people pressuring the Chinese government to intervene in the uprising
